McCain: More Conservative than Bush

How "liberal" is John McCain?

So liberal that he broke with the GOP establishment to vote against:

2002’s $180 billion farm bailout, 2003’s $558 billion Medicare drug entitlement, and 2005’s $286.4 billion highway bill, which contained 6,371 earmarks worth $24 billion [including the "Bridge to Nowhere" sponsored by Republican Don Young].

So liberal that Planned Parenthood is attacking him for his opposition to Roe v. Wade and pro-life stances.

So liberal that he doesn't support the pro-torture wing of the GOP.

Of course, that is the liberalism of Locke, Adam Smith, Hayek, and Friedman, not the Liberalism of FDR, Hillary Clinton, and the Republicans in Congress of the past decade.

UPDATE:

Jonah Goldberg: The anger that greets the Arizona senator might be more justly directed somewhere else: at President Bush
